- Abstract
Constricting the geopolitical term 'Great Game,' exclusively as a power struggle between the British and Russian empires in Asia could be a krand strategic deception.' According to British imperial policy, the Anglo-Russian competition to colonize Asia was, presumably, aimed at retaining its geopolitical domination in Europe and elsewhere. Determining the ambit of South Asia, the British conceiued a strategic plan in the 19th century to redraw the map of the region by creating a formidable barrier to defend the Indian peninsula against any invasion from the north-west and deny the inuader access to the Indian Ocean. Meanwhile, the newly crafted state would be employed to defend the Gulf states, especially their energy resources. This article discusses the Great Game as a part of British grand strategy which subsequently transformed itself into a 'New Great Game' impacting South Asia, especially Pakistan, for which it could perhaps be a Neo-Great Game.
