- Abstract
The pollution caused by potentially toxic elements (EPTs) in water sources is a major environmental problems and global interest due to continuous waste discharges to the aquatic environment anthropogenic origin . One of the biological methods are attractive in metal removal is the biosorption, which is cheaper, more effective and friendly to the environment when compared with physicochemical methods. In this study we determined the ability of biosorption Ni (II) synthetic aqueous solutions by dry biomass alga Chlorella sp. The bioadsorción kinetics as well as the influence of the initial metal concentration was also performed. Freundlich and Langmuir models were applied for describing adsorption isotherms. The experimental adsorption isotherms were fitted better to Freundlich model (R2 = 0.999). Biadsorption maximum capacity (Qmax) of biomass was 32,701 mg / g at room temperature 19 + / - 0.2 °C and pH of the metal solution. Furthermore, the FTIR analysis the functional groups of the algal surface biomass revealed carboxyl groups, hydroxyls, carbonyls and amines, which are responsible for biosorption of Ni (II).
