- Abstract
Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinomas have a slow chronological development. If diagnosed early, a Whipple surgery can be performed to excise the tumour. The recovery process and dealing with the changes following the surgery can be a challenge. However, a rigorous pre-surgical optimisation regime would allow patients to regain their former lifestyle and keep disruption to a minimum. This article applies the Roy Adaptation Model (RAM), to plan the nursing care of a 78-year-old elderly Chinese male, newly diagnosed with Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma and is scheduled for Whipple's surgery. The article will briefly describe the RAM used in this case study. The discussion on the patient, Mr C, will be presented according to history taking, physical examination and diagnosis. The entailing section applies the principles of the RAM in identifying adaptation strategies in his pre optimisation regime prior to Whipple surgery. Finally, the article concludes with an evaluation of the RAM on the patient's status.
