- Abstract
Peripheral nerve injury has become a serious concern for the neurologist and the neuroscientists. With the increase in number of cases related to stress, trauma, various other diseases and accidents an appropriate alternative for a damage nerve is needed to be find out. One of such alternatives is biodegradable nerve scaffolds fabricated from natural or synthetic polymers and proteins. This study mainly emphasized on fabrication of PVA/ keratin nanofibrous scaffold. Various characterization studies such as SEM, FT-IR, tensile test, degradation study and MTT assay were performed during this study which confirmed that PVA/Keratin blended scaffold which was further modified with gluteraldehyde provides the required environment for neural repair. Glial cell line was used to evaluate the neural cell response towards the fabricated scaffold. PVA/Keratin nanofibrous scaffold showed excellent potential as nerve repair alternative with increase in cell viability and proliferation.
