- Abstract
Bacteria occurring in natural environments are most often exposed to more than one stress condition. Hence adaptation to more than one stress factor is a prerequisite for their survival in such environments. It appears that there are some molecular links between the mechanisms involved in adaptation of extremophilic bacteria to different stressors. The phenomenon of interlinked stress response in bacteria is discussed with mechanisms known so far and biotechnological aspects are also highlighted.
