- Abstract
This paper investigates the determinants of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows in Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) using panel data for ECOWAS member states for the period 1975 to 2007 and dynamic ordinary least squares model. The results suggest that FDI inflows in ECOWAS are positively and significantly influenced by financial sector development, openness of the economy, return on investment and infrastructural development. However inflation and economic growth have negative and significant effects on FDI inflows in ECOWAS. The general conclusion is that most FDI investors in ECOWAS countries are natural-resource seeking investors.
