- Abstract
Lamiaceae is a large family comprising of about 220 genera and almost 4000 species. Members of this family are mainly grasses and shrubs, very fragrant and rich in medicinal properties. The members of this family produce a wide array of aromatic essential oils, tannins, saponins and organic acids. Since, all the plants of this family are not cultivated; those present in wild habitats are facing threat due to the overexploitation for their byproducts. So there arises the need for conservation and one of the main methods is propagation through tissue culture.
