- Abstract
The paper overviews Pulsating Heat Pipe (PHP)s to pinpoint the main contribution of various works done in this field. Actually, PHP is the most advanced form of heat pipes, which is used over last several decades. Continuous contributions made by various researchers who performed investigations on PHP are: fabrication of mini type PHP, parameter optimization of PHPs, effect of filling ratio on heat transfer characteristics, effect of inclination angles on heat transfer characteristics, experimental investigations for startup and maximum heat load, effects of fluctuations of heating and cooling section temperatures on performance of PHP, study on the difference of startup and heat transfer performance of the PHP with different fluids like water, methanol, water-acetone mixture, investigation of extra-long PHP application in solar water heaters, thermal instability of a closed loop PHP, study on the behavior of working fluids and their properties on the performance of PHPs. Numerical modeling analysis and experimental simulation of PHPs have also significantly progressed due to proper understanding of various physical phenomena in PHPs. In addition, there are many new commercial applications that have helped contribute to the recent interest in PHPs, especially related to the fields of electronic cooling and energy. For example, several PHPs are manufactured each month since all modern laptops use heat pipes for CPU cooling.
