- Abstract
Introduction: Stem cells are undifferentiated cells with the ability to divide and give rise to identical and undifferentiated cells. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is a life-saving treatment for numerous diseases including malignant conditions, immune disorders, and certain inherited metabolic diseases. Research evidence showed great benefits of stem cell therapy such as a successful treatment of leukemia and many other hematologic disorders. Aim: This survey is done to evaluate the knowledge and attitude of medical students toward stem cell therapy in health and disease. Materials and Methods: The present study is a cross-sectional survey where a questionnaire consisting of 10 questions were distributed to 100 individuals of age group 18-24 and the results were evaluated. The survey was carried out using a self-administered, anonymous, 29 item, structured, hand, and mail-delivered questionnaire. Results: This study is done to evaluate the knowledge and attitude toward stem cell therapy in health and disease in medical students where majority of the students were aware of stem cell therapy in various diseases. Conclusion: Majority of the medical students are aware of the use of stem cells in various medical and dental therapies in health and diseases.
