- Abstract
Social bonding is fundamental for several animals, including humans for its relevant and obvious impact on reproduction and thus survival of species. Many studies show that oxytocin (OT) might be one of the mediators of this process. OT is an evolutionary highly preserved neuropeptides released from paraventricular nucleus of hypothalamus through the posterior pituitary. OT receptor which presents in the human brain has been activated in adults while looking at pictures of their partners or in mothers while looking at their children. However, recent studies show OT seems to be released during sexual intercourses and organism and during the application of different relaxation techniques. So that it is thought to be one of the promoters of attachment and mediators in the decrease of the stress response which are related to positive social bonding.
