- Abstract
Six flavonoids were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of the ethanol extract of Adina pilulifera. The chemical structures of these flavonoids were determined by spectroscopic analysis, and identified to be naringenin(1), eriodictyol(2), quercetin(3), naringenin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranside(4), eriodictyol-7-O-β-D-glucopyranside(5), and quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranside(6). Among them, compounds 1,2,4 and 5 were isolated from A. pilulifera for the first time. Antiviral tests using cytopathic effect(CPE) reduction assay and MTT method revealed that the flavonoid aglyeones 1,2 and 3 possess in vitro antiviral activity against both respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and coxsackie B3 virus (CVB3) to different extents. In contrast, the flavonoid glucosides 4,5 and 6 did not show any anti-RSV and and-CVB3 effects.
