- Title
The Emergence of Cyprus as an Offshore Banking Center.
- Authors
ROUSSAKIS, EMMANUEL N.
- Abstract
The end of the Cold War and the collapse of the Soviet Union have created a new world order and increased the demand for international capital by countries that now seek to develop modern, efficient economies. Growth of cross border financial flows and the consequent globalization of banking have contributed to the emergence of several new financial centers throughout the world. Among them are offshore banking centers (OBCs), which play an important role in facilitating the flow of capital around the globe for productive purposes. This article examines the special case of Cyprus, one of the most recent and least studied OBCs.
