- Title
The Effectiveness of High-Stakes Testing and Low-Stakes Strategies in a Prelicensure Nursing Program: A Literature Review.

- Abstract
First-time National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) pass rates have serious implications for schools of nursing nationwide, including loss of certification from state education departments and loss of accreditation from accrediting agencies. Potential nursing students in the process of researching nursing schools may be reluctant to apply to schools with low NCLEX pass rates. The objective of this review was to examine the scientific literature for current evidence of the impact of standardized high-stakes exams and low-stakes strategies on student learning, as well as to investigate the extent to which schools are applying low-stakes testing throughout a nursing program of study.
