- Abstract
Objective: To investigate needle-knife therapy for weight loss and the relationship of fat distribution, serum leptin, and insulin. Methods: Patients (n = 60) with simple obesity, treated by needle-knife therapy, were divided into abdominal obesity and peripheral obesity groups by body weight index (BMI) and waist circumference. The efficacy of the needle-knife therapy for weight loss, the relationship of fat distribution, serum leptin, and insulin were observed. Results: Needle-knife therapy can improve obesity-related indicators; the rate of change of leptin and BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference and waist-hip ratio index correlated significantly, (P < 0.01). The rate of change of insulin and BMI and waist circumference have a significant positive correlation (P < 0.01). Conclusion: Needle-knife therapy is an effective way to treat simple obesity by reducing visceral fat content, which is related to improving insulin resistance, and to reduce body fat, which is related to improving leptin resistance.
