- Abstract
The principle of primacy, which is one of the principles of the European Union law, has been an important issue from past to present. In fact, the principle of primacy can be accepted as a reflection of the political integration of the European Union. In the study, firstly, the occurrence of the principle of primacy and its evolution through various decisions of the Court of Justice are dealt with. In the next chapter, the approach of member states towards this principle is mentioned, and finally the state of principle is examined at treates level. Furthermore, the milestones of the principle of primacy with a history of more than half a century which extends over today are also addressed. The study is constituted within the framework of literature and related decisions of the Court of Justice. Despite the different objections of member states for the principle of primacy, it is seen that the principle of primacy is one of the building blocks of the European Union in the process ranging from the Court decision to the Treaty of Lisbon.
