- Abstract
Recent technological developments have been affecting health care services in the same direction. Accordingly, evidence-based practices obtained in the light of scientific researches have also caused a great number of changes in surgery clinics. "Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS)" protocol which is one of these changes has focused on the rapid recovery and early discharge of patients by reducing complications after surgery. ERAS protocol which is accepted as a part of these evidence-based applications is defined not only as the preoperative preparations involving both patient evaluation and training, but also the body of rules which enables use of the most up-to-date applications that accelerate the recovery process. ERAS protocol is accepted as a protocol which enables using minimal invasive surgery, increasing the pain control to the optimal level by decreasing analgesic intake, and which provides mobilization at post-operative period by increasing the intake of carbohydrates at pre-surgery period and the optimal fluid intake management by actualizing oral feeding within the shortest time. Searching literature for this new approach, the studies in the field of colorectal surgery carried out in Denmark draw attention first, but the studies in the field of gynaecology have been observed to be insufficient. In addition, it is remarkable that during the treatment process, the professional nurses have not taken active parts and involved in studies. Therefore, in this review, it is aimed to make nurses benefit from evidencebased practices while giving care to patients operated on gynecologic surgery and to give literature a new point of view.
