- Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the relationship between nursing students' attitudes towards gender roles and care behaviors. Material and Methods: The sample of the descriptive study consisted of 298 nursing students. The data were collected using "Personal Information Form", "Gender Roles Attitude Scale (GRAS)" and "Caring Assessment Questionnaire (Care-Q)". Results: The mean age of the female students was 20.6±1.6 years, the mean age of the male students was 21.1±2 years; it was determined that 66.8% were girls, 33.2% were boys, 52.4% of the students chose the profession because of the job finding guarantee and 69.5% of the students came to the department willingly. The mean score of GRAS of the students was 107.8±12.8 and the mean score of Care-Q was 5.2±0.8. A positive and low level correlation was determined between the "Egalitarian Gender Role" subscale and the total score average of Care-Q, there was a negative and low level significant correlation between "Marriage Gender Role" and "Traditional Gender Role" subscales point average and Care-Q total score average. Conclusion: It was determined that the attitudes of the students towards gender roles were in an egalitarian way and their perception of caring behaviors was at a good level. There was a negative relationship between caring behaviors and attitudes towards marriage gender rol and traditional gender roles in, and there was a positive relationship with the egalitarian gender role.
