- Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the correlation between the organizational cynicism levels of teachers and the administration style of the school principal perceived by the teachers. The study included 373 teachers employed in schools at Battalgazi, Yeşilyurt and Yazıhan districts in Malatya, Turkey during the 2016-2017 academic year spring semester. "Organizational Cynicism Scale" and "Principal's Perceived Administration Style Scale" were applied to the participant teachers. Teachers "partially" agreed with the statements in the organizational cynicism scale. The perceived administrative styles of the principles were "mostly" collaborative, "rarely" authoritarian, "never" indifferent, and "seldom" resistant according to the teachers. There was a significant difference between the levels of perception of organizational cynicism of the teachers based on gender and branch variables. There were significant differences between the perceived administrative style of the principal by the teachers based on their branch, gender and education level variables. As a result of the regression analysis conducted to determine whether the perceived administrative style of the principal predicted organizational cynicism levels significantly, it was determined that the perceived administrative style of the principal explained about 41.6% of the variance in organizational cynicism scores. Based on the standardized regression coefficients, the order of the significance of the predictive variables on the organizational cynicism was collaborative administration (β=-.487), indifferent administration (β=.126), resistant administration (β =.069), and authoritarian administration (β=.045) styles.
