- Abstract
Oral cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide. Globally, therefore, 'oral cancer' is the twelfth most frequent cause of cancer related deaths amongst males and sixteenth amongst females. Oral cancer is common in middle-aged adults. Incidence increases with age. More than 90% of oral malignancies are oral squamous cell carcinoma. Oral cancer is asymptomatic in general. Early mucosal lesions seem as reddish areas, small mucosal growths or ulcerations. In late stage, tumor infiltrates to contiguous tissues such as muscle, bone or skin and evolves to regional lymph nodes. Metastasis to regional lymph nodes considered as poor prognosis. In this review, we aimed to give information about squamous cell carcinoma and other invasive cancers of oral cavity such as verrucous carcinoma, malign melanoma, primary intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma and their treatments.
