- Abstract
The aim of the study is to determine the most watched cartoons in early childhood and determination of violence items in these cartoons. Cankiri Provincial Directorate of National Education in kindergartens that are connected to the research conducted with children who are studying qualitative research method was used. To determine the most watched children’s cartoons, given their expert opinion on the final shape of “Semi- Structured Interview Form” was used. After the cartoons watched by the children were identified, a “Content Analysis Form” consisting of categories and subcategories was used to determine the violence items contained in cartoons. The validity of the external controller of the study, compliance was measured from the reliability encoders. As a result of the research, it was determined that the most watched cartoons of the children are “Keloğlan,Pepee, Ege and Gaga, Niloya, İstanbul Muhafızları”. For the “Keloğlan” cartoon, which is the most watched cartoon, fifteen of them were selected by random sampling method from the section “Keloğlan Odama Saklandı” which was published as last season January 2015- January 2018, and the analyzes were completed in accordance with the “Content Analysis Form”. It was determined that items for physical violence (n=17) were included in the “Keloğlan” cartoons as s result of the analysis, followed by items for emotional (n=12) and economic (n=2) violence respectively. Based on the results obtained from the research, it can be suggested that efforts should be made not to have violence items in cartoons, and that the whole society, especially parents, should show the necessary sensitivity to this issue.
