- Abstract
The aim of this study was to identify the Xwmc221 marker for the leaf rust Puccinia recondita f. sp. tritici resistance gene Lr19 among 47 foreign cultivars of winter wheat. Marker Xwmc221 linked to the Lr19 gene was identified in reference genotypes i.e. cultivars: Agatha and GSTR 420, and in two tested cultivars: KWS Loft and Arktis. The cultivar KWS Loft has a very good resistance to P. recondita f. sp. tritici in the field conditions, in contrast to the cultivar Arktis which resistance to P. recondita was medium despite the presence of Lr19 gene. The cultivars: Ohio, Pengar and Speedway have shown very high field resistance to P. recondita f. sp. tritici, and it can be assumed that they probably have other genes of resistance to this disease. The study determined the suitability Xwmc221 marker to identify the gene Lr19 in wheat cultivars with different origins. The marker may be used to support selection in breeding programs.
