- Abstract
This quasi-experimental study explored the effect of a logotherapy-based counseling group in reducing depression and improving life satisfaction among a sample of older adult male Jordanians living in care homes for the elderly. We randomly assigned 40 men, ages 65-69 years old, to either the experimental group (n=20) or waitlist control conditions; we assessed both groups with the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and the Satisfaction with Life scale (SWLS) prior to and immediately following the experimental intervention. The experimental group was assessed further with both measures four weeks subsequent to the postintervention assessment. Analysis revealed significant difference between control and experimental groups on these measures at immediate postintervention follow up. Moreover, additional analysis showed that among the experimental group, lower levels of depression symptoms were maintained and satisfaction with life scores were slightly higher at onemonth post-intervention.
