- Abstract
We examined pesticide concentrations in soil, groundwater, and surface water in July and November in 2011 from a rice-growing area in Eastern China. Now prohibited, DDT concentrations in soil and groundwater were low. Between summer and winter, chlorpyrifos increased in soil because of summer applications and decreased in groundwater because of degradation. Chlorpyrifos, cis-chlorfenvinphos, and trans-chlorfenvinphos in surface water in summer reflect applications during heavy rain and their solubility. DDT and chlorpyrifos in the soil and groundwater were below the limits for human health. However, chlorpyrifos and chlorfenvinphos in surface water exceeded the LC50 (96 h) for some freshwater shrimps and fish.
