- Abstract
In this study, carboxylated bagasse hemicellulose was used as absorbent to adsorb ions Cu2+ and Pb2+.The effects of pH and initial ions concentration on the adsorption capacity were discussed. The adsorption capacity was first increased and then decreased. The optimal pH for adsorption was 5.5. Thermodynamics showed that Freundlich adsorption isotherm can state the adsorption process of carboxylated hemicellulose for Cu2+ and Pb2+. Adsorption was an exothermic process. The theoretical saturated adsorption capacities (q2) for Cu2+ and Pb2+ were 19.28 mg.g-1 and 59.52 mg.g-1. The Pseudo-second-order kinetics models for Cu2+ and Pb2+ were dqt/dt= 0.06(qt)2-2.41qt+23.30 and dqt/dt= 0.02(qt)2-2.82+89.96. The affinity of Pb2+ to carboxylated hemicellulose was larger than that of Cu2+ to carboxylated hemicellulose. Pb2+ was easier adsorbed to carboxylated hemicellulose than Cu2+.
