- Abstract
Honey has been used for the topical treatment of ulcers and wounds. The last Cochrane review about this subject, gathered data until June 2012 concluding that there are not only sufficient evidences, but there is a lack of controlled trials. "The European Wound Management Association" in 2013 concluded the same thing, and besides, that there was a lack of in vitro studies with biofilms. In order to know about the advances, we have made a bibliographic review since June 2012 to March 2015, having found 227 publications and outlining only the ones that represent advances. The conclusion is that there are already controlled trials with patients that show the effectiveness of honey. In addition there are in vitro studies with biofilms that show the broad spectrum of honey, even with multi-resistant bacteria. There are several authors that consider that honey must have its space in the Therapeutic as topical antimicrobial agent.
