- Abstract
In the digital society, communicative habits are being developed that interfere with the interpersonal links of face-to-face interaction and are associated with the use of mobile devices. Objective. To evaluate the problematic use that adolescents make of their mobile phones and social networks and to what extent these uses / abuses predict the social phenomenon of Phubbing. It also aims to analyze the relationships between this behavior and deficits in self-control. Method. Through a nonprobabilistic sampling of convenience, 285 students (167 girls and 118 boys) with ages between 14 and 18 years have been selected (M = 15.73; SD = 1.204). Results. There has been a low prevalence of mobile abuse by adolescents and it has been confirmed that the problematic use of mobile phones and social networks predicts phubbing. It has been proven that girls make a greater maladaptive use of mobile phones and social networks. There is also a positive relationship between the problematic use of such devices and the behavior of phubbing associated with deficits in self-control. Conclusions. It is necessary to promote responsible uses of ICT, as well as to optimize the resources of adolescent communicative interaction.
