- Abstract
The morphofunctional organization of the esophagus is complex, and its vessel are very important for understanding the esophageal physiology and pathological aspect. There are only few studies concerning arterial intramuscular pattern of esophagus and the results are different. In our study, we wanted to quantify the vascular distribution pattern in esophageal layers, by qualitative analysis, to sustain or not the existence of paucivascular microanatomic areas of the esophageal layers. We studied the intramural distribution of the blood vessels for cervical and thoracic esophagus. The paucivascular areas exist and are located in the inner circular muscular layer of the posterior wall of the cervical and thoracic esophagus.
