- Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major community health problem in the world that still persists. There are increasing calls for a concerted effort to curtail this health concern, and eradicate TB. Health education about TB is greatly required because of the lack of knowledge related to adequate health behavior that affects the progress of TB patients. The main aim of this study was to investigate the differences in the effects of health education through the printed media compared to audiovisual sources, to increasing patients' knowledge. This study is a quasi experimental study with a pre test-post test comparison design. The samples in this study were TB patients from the Kedungkandang Community Health Center, Malang, the location being chosen using the accidental sampling technique. The samples were divided into two treatment groups, groups which receive printed media and groups with access to audiovisual media, for the transfer health information. Data analysis was accomplished through the independent t-test (95% confidence interval) with p-value = 0.001 that gives evidence of differences in the effect of health education through printed and audiovisual media for increasing of patients' knowledge. Audiovisual media can be used as a potential method for health education in primary health facilities.
