- Abstract
Repairing removable partial dentures is an important part of the clinical prosthetics. The long-term use of any denture is implying at some point adjustments and repairs; many partially dentate adults prefer to rather recover their existing dentures then make a new one, if the results last long enough to justify that. The aim of this review was to assess the current state of research and also the future need in what is concerned the interventions for repairing partial dentures and the methods that can be used to enhance their resistance. Material and method: the data were reviewed focusing on currently available repairing and strength enhancing methods, regarding techniques, designs, materials and their impact on the quality and durability of the repair. Results: the materials used, such as different types of repair acrylic resin and fiber, filler, and nanofiller additions, the design of the repairing line, the surface treatments and the sandblasting, brazing and laser-welding techniques had a significant impact on repair's success. Conclusions: future studies are necessary to evaluate the newest materials, designs and technologies; they should also include long-term follow-up and clinical trials. Advances in materials and digital production should be investigated further in order to improve the quality of the removable partial denture repairs, having important clinical implications by increasing the satisfaction and quality of life of the patients and reducing costs.
