- Abstract
Are the intercultural design of sociocritical approach and User Experience Design incompatible? This paper reviews how design methods operate in multicultural contexts in relation to studies of user experience (UX). The inquiry is being conducted through a qualitative approach, through the document review processed from open coding. It is found that design methods tagged as intercultural have an important distance from the conceptual bases developed by socio-cultural studies. Likewise, it is identified that UX methods are conspicuous by their absence in the experiences of intercultural design. It is suggested that the multidisciplinary participatory methods can be considered as the most relevant to the development of an intercultural design fed from the UX perspective, and that, therefore, it is important to review the place that non-experts in design occupy in these processes. Finally, the contribution of User Experience Design in the procedures and studies of intercultural design is highlighted, from the emotional, aesthetic and semantic dimensions. In turn, this interdisciplinary relationship brings interesting contributions and challenges for that domain.
