- Abstract
The growth of globalization and the need for students to develop cross cultural competency and awareness of opportunities beyond their domestic and respective national borders has increased the value of the short-term global business trip (STGBT). This study discusses the short–term business trips offered in the Rinker School of Business at Palm Beach Atlantic University. The study discusses findings from nine trips by analyzing results from a survey instrument developed by Finley, Taylor, and Warren (2007). The second area of this research reflects on the narrative experiences discussed in their portfolio project. Results from the surveys and narrative essays collected from the nine trips reinforce students’ perceptual values were positive in better understanding complexities of dealing with culture, increased understanding of global clients and businesses, and greater understanding of cultural differences. The narrative findings support the students’ increased understanding of conducting global business, the unique value the STGBT as adding to their university experience with the opportunity to foster stronger friendships and camaraderie outside the classroom environment.
