- Abstract
Purpose: The main purpose of this study is measuring the media literacy skills of student of university of the Punjab, Lahore. This research is focused and aimed to investigate and explain the current phenomena of media literacy skills (MLS) of the students of university and to measure their capabilities and analytical skills towards media use and content. The allied purposes are to know the skills regarding the use, understanding, assessment, evaluation and creation of media. Methodology: Quantitative research approach followed by survey research design was adopted to conduct this study. The population of this study is post graduate students of Punjab University Lahore. Out of 210 respondents, 198 responses (94%) we received. Findings: This study explored that although student use media well, but few students have good understanding about the media literacy. Students have moderate awareness about media assessment and evaluation. Very few students are skillful in content production for media. Significance: This study fills the gap of media literacy as no study is available in Pakistani context as best of our knowledge. This study will helpful for the government, media educationist and experts to promote and to render media literacy possible for every citizen of Pakistan. This is how most of the population will be media literate and will be able to meet the need of the hour in this fast-growing global world.
