- Abstract
In this paper has been done a comparative measurement of Vickers hardness of two types of aluminum alloys: an hypoeutectic aluminum silicon alloy (Al7Si) and an eutectic aluminum silicon alloy (Al12Si). Samples from each type of aluminum alloy has been produced by centrifugal casting and by gravity casting to be able to achieve the comparison. By reducing the solidification time, centrifugal casting improves significantly the mechanical properties of the materials thus obtained. The hardness measurements shows an increasing in all three position of the ingots of the samples obtained by centrifugal casting. The maximum hardness values were obtained for hypoeutectic aluminum alloy in position 1 of the ingot, obtained by centrifugal casting method. An overall improvement of hardness values was noticed in all three position for eutectic and hypoeutectic aluminum alloys obtained by centrifugal casting method.
