- Title
Phase Equalization and its Importance in the Reproduction of Disc Records.
- Authors
Galo, Gary A.
- Abstract
Since the introduction of computer-based digital editors, transferring disc records "flat" and applying the phono playback equalization in the digital domain has become popular. While digital equalization may provide the correct frequency response, with a high degree of accuracy, the phase response of disc recording and playback is often ignored. This article will describe the nature of phase shift in analog filters, how that phase shift applies to the disc recording characteristic, and why it is necessary to provide complementary phase correction in playback. This paper is based on the author's presentation given at the 2009 MISC Conference held in Washington, DC.
