- Authors
Harms, Joshua; Wade, Lee
- Abstract
A defining characteristic of the 21st century has been the rapid growth of social media. The current study looks at law enforcement efforts in social media to inform the public, shame criminals and criminal activity, and to seek aid from the community in investigations. This study fills a void in current research by empirically evaluating police-posted videos and the rate that these videos lead to both tips and arrests. Implications for how these videos can effectively assist in criminal investigations are discussed.
