- Abstract
This study aimed to survey the scientific production on tissue repair in diabetic patients. We searched articles, books and articles published, particularly in the lastten years, from online databases such as SCIELO, MEDLINE- PUBMED, BIREME-LILACS and GOOGLE SCHOLAR. The Diabetes Mellitus is the absence of insulin or its action, with damage, dysfunction and organ failure. The major cause of prolonged hospitalization of diabetics are not treated the wounds, which raise the costs of treatment. It is estimated that four million people have injuries with complications in healing. The healing process is essential to the survival of living beings, including reactions of every organism. Understands complex stages, and simultaneous interdepentent with inflammation, reconstruction, epithelialization and maturation. The tissue repair in diabetic complications has linked to hyperglycemia, which increases the activity of the polyol pathway, non enzymatic glycation of proteins with glucose (AGEs) (Advanced Glycation End-products), and the very action of AGEs. These mechanisms lead to endothelial dysfunction that precede vascular complications in diabetes, impaired immune inflammatory response, with state of chronic inflammation. Physiological imbalance occurs and tissue susceptibility to disease. Health professionals should seek to prevent injuries and their complications in diabetics, guide balanced diet, reduced glucose AGEs
