- Abstract
Man in this age of globalization has not been satisfied with his worldly success since it can only provide a transitory physical worldly pleasure and not an everlasting peace of mind he aspires for. Rather globalization makes him aware of his own identity in respect to his racial, communal or social identity in the greater context of world perspective. This awareness persuades him to turn to his individual self, to turn 'within'. This search for identity brings him on the threshold of a crucial turning point where his individual identity comes across a larger identity, a Greater Self. This integrity of self with the Greater Self has been addressed in Sri Aurobindo's proposition of 'Integral Advaitism' which is all-embracing from Matter to the Supreme. To Aurobindo, it is the journey of the consciousness in different levels of its transformation. This idea of advaitism gets manifested in the symbolic journeys of Savitri and of Aswapati in his magnum opus, Savitri: A Legend and a Symbol. This paper is an endeavour to explore into this symbolic interpretation of these two journeys in the broader aspect of bringing divinity on earth through transformation of consciousness.
