- Abstract
Improvements in production technology enable heat exchangers to be manufactured in mini and micro dimensions with higher sensitivity. The use of microchannels, which can be manufactured in specific geometries, has been accelerated especially in last two decades. Because microchannels achieve high rate and efficient heat transfer on a smaller surface area, they are intensively used in cooling systems, and, studies devoted to the performance enhancement of microchannels proceed intensively. Due to the relation of surface area volume ratio, it is known that microchannels provide higher heat transfer with regard to bigger channels (mini and macrochannels). Besides reducing the dimensions of the channel, another way of providing higher heat transfer from available channels is to improve the thermal properties of the fluid. New generation heat transfer fluids obtained by adding particles in nano dimension with high thermal conductivity into conventional heat transfer fluids are defined as "nanofluid". The particles suspended in stable and homogeneously into the fluid do not cause obstruction of the channels and furthermore because of the fact that both the thermal conductivities of the nanofluids are high and they create relative turbulence by the interaction with channel walls increase the performance of the microchannels. Hereby, more effective and silent cooling of electronic devices, which have heat generating components, with respect to conventional cooling methods will be realized.
