Ramazzini, Johnson, and Rambler 85: A New Attribution.
Authors
Lee, Anthony W.
Abstract
The article analyzes the poem "Rambler 85" by Samuel Johnson, focusing on an allusion to 17th-century intellect Bernardino Ramazzini. Biographical information is provided on Ramazzini, who was also known as a poet, philosopher, and teacher. Noting that Johnson was familiar with Ramazzini's work during his studies, the author suggests that Johnson refers to Ramazzini's "De morbis artificium diatriba" treatise in paragraph one of the poem.
