- Abstract
The article presents the author's opinion on the impact the Harry Potter book series has had on the British novel tradition. The books written by J. K. Rowling has engaged a new generation of readers, elementary-school-age crowd as well as a huge number of adults. However there is a raging debate among the academicians on whether or not the Harry Potter books are "just" children's books or whether they have literary merit. The author believes that the issues developed in the series are complex enough to command an adult reading.
