- Abstract
The article discusses the clinical management of bipolar disorder in a primary care setting. The authors inferred that primary care providers (PCP) must evaluate comorbid psychiatric disorders such as anxiety disorders because they need to be accounted for in treatment planning. They averred that a PCP may refer a patient with bipolar disorder to a psychiatric specialist if they are not comfortable treating the patient. They added that psychosocial interventions such as psychotherapy, education, and support groups can help manage the disorder, reduce relapses, and improve adherence to medication.
