- Title
6. Skin tests used for epidemiologic studies.
- Authors

- Abstract
Skin tests producing immediate reactions are used to detect causative factors in atopic allergy, especially respiratory tract allergy. They have also been employed to classify subjects into atopic and non-atopic groups. In epidemiologic studies, skin testing has been used to establish the prevalence of skin test positivity to common environmental allergens in the general population or in subjects lacking a clinical or family of atopy. The quality of allergen source material in commercial preparations varies widely and may include non-allergenic, low-molecular-weight compounds which induce nonspecific, false positive reactions, either directly or indirectly.
