- Abstract
Turks mostly believed Sky God, Buddhism and Manichaeism before accepting Islam. The big immigration from Central Asia to Anatolia was not able to erase the effects of old believes. These old believes that are reflecting to the important transition periods of human life such as parturition, marriage and death, still can find life. In this study, some of the folk believes and traditions which are still can find application in the Gölbasi town of Adiyaman city, have been investigated. This believes that have important role in the town culture, are based on Turks’s old religions and Islam. Investigated folk religions and their applications are the remainder of pre-Islam Turk believes. Ground, sky, water, tree, fire, iron and ancestors cults are connected to Sky God and still used to ask help to realize every kind wishes in Golbasi.
