- Abstract
This research was taken up to investigate the properties of thermally bonded nonwovens made with a combination of chicken feather fibers and jute fibers. Chicken feathers are poultry waste with little to no effective use as of now and the current practices used for their settlement are not only nature damaging but simply neglect their potential. Chicken feather fibers (CFF) can prove to be a valuable alternative source of protein fibers. In this research, pure and blended nonwoven samples (five samples) using CFF and jute fibers were prepared, where two samples were made by using pure CFF and pure jute fibers each. Then three nonwoven samples were made by using CFF and jute in different blend proportions i.e. 50:50, 30:70 70:30 respectively. Webs were prepared by carding and the thermal bonding (hot calendaring) method was used to convert the loose fibrous mat to a nonwoven structure. The developed nonwovens were tested for their mechanical, thermal and electrical properties to establish their prospective applications.
