- Abstract
The contribution discusses the prominent architect František Roith and his creations in Černošice (Prague-West District), a well-known summer resort near the City of Prague. He designed three modern-style summer villas with progressive ground floors that stood out both in Czech architectural production and abroad. Dated 1909-1910, two of his three villas included modern interior designs as well as unique geometric layouts of gardens with gazebos. Both of the villas were among the first structures with flat roofs in the Czech lands. Roith's third villa, dated 1913, represents a modern concept of a summer palace. After World War I, Roith worked on a summerhouse inspired by folk architecture for Professor Kristián Hynek, a famous physician, and on the reconstruction of a villa for the factory owner of Prague, Josef Džbánek.
