Title
Pyaasa: Sahir Ludhiyanvi's Politics and Poetry.
Authors
Ranjan, Amit
Abstract
Pyaasa remains one of the best films in the list of Bollywood classics for which Sahir Ludhiyanvi wrote some ever green social and romantic songs. With Guru Dutt in the lead, the storyline of the film and the songs by Sahir raised some uncomfortable but pertinent questions about class exploitation, inequality, and women's conditions in the then newly independent India. This paper discusses the film Pyaasa, and examines the politics of songs penned by Sahir.
