- Abstract
Adverse effect in many tissues and organs due to disorders in thyroid functions is well known but role these disorder on male reproduction remained controversial. The present study conducted toevaluate fertility of male mice with carbimazole-induced hypothyroidism and investigate protective role of DHEA supplementation. Male mice were divided into three groups (six animals each group), first group received distilled water and served as control while remind animals were drenched eithercrabmazole alone or in combination with DHEA in second and third groupsrespectivelyfor four weeks. In carbimazol-induced hypothyroidismmice, a significant reduction in epididymal sperm count, LH, FSH and testosterone with respect to the control group. Besides, administration of DHEA for 30 days in third group was significantly elevateepididymal sperm count and serum levels ofLH,FSH and testosterone, but still less than their values in control group . The histological findings of thyroid gland confirm the action of carbimazole on thyroid and consequently, the success of the hypothyroidism induction. However, induction of hypothyroidism when co-occurred with DHEA, thyroid showing little ameliorate in thyroid follicular arrangement. Study clearly monitored that hypothyroidism negatively affect male fertility and DHEA possesses enhancement effects against carbimazole.
