- Abstract
Background: Each patient will have different teeth shade and different shade of gingiva. In this study, white component refers to the teeth shade and the pink component refers to the shade of gingiva. During fabrication of fixed partial prosthesis sometime, the teeth will have gingival recession; in such cases, the appropriate shade of gingival component can be added to make it more comfortable and more esthetic for the patient. It can also be useful in fabrication of anterior removable partial denture to make it esthetically better. Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the teeth shade and gingival shade among different ethnicities. Materials and Methods: Three groups were participated in this study. Each group comprised people from different ethnicities. Extraoral profile pictures of 30 indifferent patients from three different ethnicities were collected. Shade guides were used to evaluate the pink component and white component. Gingival shade and teeth shade of different ethnicities were analyzed statistically. Results: The results were statistically analyzed. The gingival shades and teeth shades among the three groups with different ethnicities were assessed. A2 and G2 were found to be the mostly common found teeth shade and gingival shade. Malaysians and Koreans were tended to have more lighter gingival and tooth shade than the Indians. Skin complexion has a significant role in the color of gingiva and tooth. Conclusion: The tooth shade of Malaysians was much brighter when compared to all the others, whereas the gingival shade and tooth shade of the Indians was dull when compared to the shade of gingiva and tooth of other two ethnicities.
