- Abstract
Adopting nostalgia as a focus, the present study investigated the regional distribution of quality rural tourism and its dynamic characteristics toward clarifying the spatial mechanisms of highquality development of rural tourism in China. This study aimed to yield considerable significance in narrowing the discrepancy between urban and rural development; it also intended to assist coordinated regional development. Focusing on the core topic of nostalgia, the present study constructed an indicator system for high- quality development of rural tourism in China. It employed the Theil index, nuclear density, and standard deviation ellipse to investigate regional differences and dynamic development of high-quality rural tourism in China’s Yellow River Basin from 2007 to 2018. We obtained the following results. (1) During that period, the high-quality development of rural tourism in the study area showed the trend of downstream>middle reaches>upstream; spatially it displayed a non-equilibrium feature of upstream>middle stream>downstream. The differences were the most evident in the upstream regions. (2) From 2007 to 2018, the core density curve of high-quality development of rural tourism in the Yellow River Basin changed from a multi- peak to a single- peak left; the right tail was also extended. This finding shows that the development of rural tourism in the Yellow River Basin declined over the study period. Notably, there was a marked development gap between upstream and downstream regions, which reflected an emphasis on larger enterprises. (3) Regarding the standard deviation ellipse, the quality development of rural tourism in the Yellow River Basin from 2007 to 2018 showed a southwestnortheast distribution, and this distribution pattern reflected a shift to the southwest. Analysis of the center of gravity trajectory of the high-quality development of the rural watershed of the Yellow River Basin identified a process of migration to the southwest and then to the northwest. That development suggests that quality development of rural tourism in the western part of that basin has improved.
