- Abstract
This introduction aims for approaching Hannah Arendt’s thinking, her self-concept as an intellec- tual, and as a woman as well as her concept of political action. Primarily orientated at her study »The Human Condition«, these considerations agree with Arendt’s concern as a political theo- rist to reflect about us »from« the world and not in the opposite way. Her apprehension that other- wise there would result »catastrophic breakdowns of the common world«, indicates the actuality of Arendt’s conception, in which each hermetic system, claiming self-assurance and consistency, is being considered as extremely dangerous. Impacted by the uniforming National Socialist regime that destroyed pluralistic differences, categories such as social conformity, imperatives of economic utilitarianism and subjective sensitivities do not qualify as criteria for public political action accor- ding to Arendt. Arendt’s frequently stupefying perspectives are an appropriate corrective – in the end even for feminist-based options of thinking and actions.
